The first town census of 1918 showed El Nido having a population of 1,789. In the period between 1980 and 1990, the population grew up to 18,832. In 2007, more than 30,000 people call El Nido their home.

El Nido had an annual growth rate of 3.58% based in the 2000 census. This is relatively higher than the average annual population growth rate for the whole country for the periods 1990 to 2000 and 2000 to 2007, which was only 2.34% and 2.04%.
